Cristo Rey Village to Hold Annual River Fest

On Sunday, Cristo Rey Village, in Cayo District, will hold its annual River Fest. This year, the festival is being held under the theme, “Promoting River Conservation, Cultural Value and Local Business”. The event starts at seven o’clock, with a canoe race and will feature booths from various stakeholders. Village Chairman, Wilmer Guerra says the day will be packed with fun-filled activities.

“We start first in the morning at 7 a. m. with the canoe race. The canoe race goes from Cristo Rey to St. Ignatius and then from St. Ignatius to Cristo Ray.  At about 10 a. m. we start with an official opening ceremony and the award ceremony for the canoe race. We have different games for the kids. We have games for adults. We have booths because we’re trying to conserve that, uh, or to promote that conservation of, of the river and, and conservation as a whole. You have a co a couple of NGOs coming in, like friends for conservation and development. So it’s an event that a lot of people are expecting. From 2017 we’ve seen the number of visitors coming in increasing. So this year, the event itself is a lot bigger than it has been in previous years. It’s an event for the entire family. Like I said, we’ll have games for kids and have games for adults. We have a lot of persons. So if you come in, more than likely, you’re going to, if you participate, you get the chance of winning. But also not only that, but there’s going to be food. There’s going to be a number of attractions, like the culture dancing. So it’s an event for the entire family.”
