Guinea Grass Resident Found Dead on Farm
There is a death investigation taking place in Orange Walk after a man was found dead on his farm in the Camp One area of Shipyard. Thirty-seven-year-old Hipolito Humes Junior went to his farm located on the other side of the New River, but did not return that day. On Sunday, the father and a nephew went to the area to tend to the cattle they had on the farm. That’s when Hipolito Humes Senior made the discovery. He found the body of his son laying face up behind the house. He immediately called the police. There were reportedly no signs of injury on the body, but a post-mortem examination scheduled for later this week will determine the cause of death. News Five spoke with Humes Senior this morning at their Guinea Grass home.

“He told me that he was going to reach in the evening. I was on the other side where I have some cattle. We were taking care of the cattle because there are plenty of wild cats. So I came this morning and he says daddy I’m going there. I said then go; He’s gone. He stayed elsewhere and I came. In the afternoon I came looking for around five or six o’clock and I’ll be here, waiting for you. If you see that I don’t go down there, then bring my nephew with you tomorrow. We arrived at the riverbank and I didn’t come to look for me because he told me that he is going to look for us. There we are. Its eight o’clock and he didn’t show up. I told the other guy, we can’t wait because we have to dig. The hot sun more so we took a small canoe and paddled up the river since it wasn’t far. When we got there, we saw the boat that he traveled in was at the other bacadia. I go inside the house. I see that the house is closed; the back door is locked. I went in but I came out because I was going to drink some water from a tambo that I have. When I came back, I saw something different because there was a piece of plastic where there was water but it wasn’t there. I saw a cartridge thrown there on the ground. I presented it as something. Could it be that something has happened to you? I went behind the house and when I raised my head and looked further away, about thirty or forty yards, there he was on the ground. I reached there and I saw that he was dead. He was not bleeding. I just saw him laying face up and part of his face was purple. And then I shouted for help and didn’t know what to do.”
