Prisoner escapes from farm project
Tonight the family of Mark Martinez in Double Head Cabbage remains in shock after an escaped prisoner entered their home and attacked them with a knife. While at this time reports are sketchy, the police say Peter Augustine, who was serving a five year jail term at Hattieville Prison, was one of the inmates taken to Yalbac Farm as part of the prison’s new farming project. Augustine, however, apparently was not cut out for the country life and chose to make a future elsewhere. Reports are that the escaped prisoner somehow made it to Double Head Cabbage Village and broke into the Martinez home through the kitchen. Unconfirmed reports are that Augustine then picked up a knife and made his way to the living room where the family was gathered. He first attacked Pauline Martinez by stabbing her in the right leg. Mark then stood up to defend his wife, and in turn he received multiple stab wounds including one to the neck. Augustine then fled the scene but was quickly apprehended and this evening he was transported to CIB headquarters in Belize City. Meanwhile Mark Martinez remains hospitalized. According to police they were never informed by prison authorities about Augustine’s escape and it wasn’t until after the chopping incident and subsequent investigation that they discovered he was a prisoner on the loose.
