Kera Leslie Still Needs Your Help

Forty-three-year-old Kera Leslie is recovering well in a hospital at Clinica Merida, a privately-run medical institution in Merida, Mexico. The grandmother has been there since May receiving advanced-level care for a rare auto-immune condition. A week ago, doctors at the hospital removed her thyroid and had to attach a tube for her to breathe through her throat. Kera’s mom, Sharn Graham and her sister, Kareen Leslie told News Five that while their loved one is on the road to recovery now, her medical bill is mounting and they are in need financial assistance.

“I was denied the first time I asked, but I have a plan to talk to them again, just so that we can – because it’s not practical to be, you know, held here if we don’t have it. Because then, you know, I’m not able to work and all that stuff, so I will talk to them again. And the nature of that, I’m not sure what will be the outcome, but I am praying on it that they understand because I know that there’s a possibility that they see exactly what we’re going through and that I’m trying, because I have paid already over like $40,000 U.S already to this point. We’ve paid and the bill is still rising because she’s still receiving care. The situation that she was in, being a urgent, peculiar case, it just run up the cost so high for them to – because they did everything in their power to try and help her. Every test that they had to test, to check on everything, they did that to help her. So, you know, it’s the fault of no one, but we have to find a, a proper resolution to it.  And doctor said once she’s able to breathe on her own, She’ll be able to discharge and go home, and the other stuff can be finalized in Belize.”

“But before we move, we have to pay off all this bill. We can’t leave, don’t pay the bill. We have to pay the bill, and we need to pay them because the healthcare ya really good because if we didn’t come to Merida, she would’ve died and doctor saved her life. And I personally want to pay this hospital. Kathy done a good job for my daughter and I appreciate it.”

“I reached out to as much of the Belizean government agencies. I haven’t got a respond from anyone so far, but I reach out to them and just let them know of the situation and even if they could intervene on our behalf so that we can assist with, get some type of assistance with a payment plan. We’re not asking for it to be free. If we can get some assistance on their part because of the magnitude of the bill, that would be very great. We’ll be very grateful if they can intervene on, at least on that.”

Kera’s medical bill currently stands at around a hundred and fifteen thousand dollars. If you can help, you can make monetary deposits to Kareen’s Belize Bank account: one, nine, zero, six, one, three, zero, one, zero, two, two, zero, zero, zero, zero. You can also reach out to Marie Therese Leslie Vernon on Facebook, who is having a few fundraisers to help defray the costs of Kera’s medical bill.
