National Sports Council Director, Ian Cal, Resigns.

Ian Cal

The Director of the National Sports Council, Ian Cal, has tendered his resignation. Cal was appointed by Kevin Bernard, the former Minister of Sports, shortly after the People’s United Party administration took office in 2020. News Five understands that Cal’s contract with the council expired at the end of March, but he continued to serve in that capacity to allow the current Minister of Sports, Rodwell Ferguson, to appoint a successor.  Cal currently serves as the chairperson for the Orange Walk East constituency under Area Representative Kevin Bernard. Reports are that employment at the Ministry of Health and Wellness is one of several options on the table for him. This morning, we spoke with Sports Minister Rodwell Ferguson about Cal’s resignation and a possible successor.

“Ian Cal decided to move on and he resigned from the National Sports Council effective the fifteenth of June.”

Paul Lopez

“What can you tell us about what made him decide to move on?”

Rodwell Ferguson

“I guess he is originally from Orange Walk and he decided that he would maybe go closer to his home where he is most connected and so he decided to resign from his post.”

Paul Lopez

“So you are saying he is going up north.”

Rodwell Ferguson

“I believe so, I have no idea.”

Paul Lopez

“So there is no bad blood there.’

Rodwell Ferguson

“No, there is no bad blood there.”
