Indian businessman murdered near Orange Walk
In Orange Walk police are trying to solve the grisly murder of an Indian businessman. Last night around nine, the body of 48 year old Bherumal Punjabi was found in a cane field off the San Roman Road, less than a quarter mile from the northern highway. Punjabi’s throat had been pierced by a stalk of cane. Sources contacted by News Five say that Punjabi was driving back from the border where he is involved in the money changing business. He apparently stopped or was stopped on the way where at least two men were picked up. These men then forced Punjabi to pull over, where they dragged him from the car and killed him. The motive was apparently robbery as police report that Punjabi’s money bag was missing, although his jewelry and additional cash in his pocket were untouched. At least two suspects are being sought, one East Indian and the other of fair complexion. The entire crime was apparently witnessed by a man working in a nearby papaya field.
