18 Students Awarded Scholarships to Complete High School

Eighteen students are receiving great news tonight because they will be able to continue their academic journey through high school. It is an initiative that began in August 2022, through the Office of the Special Envoy for the Development of Families & Children, in partnership with the Embassy of Taiwan.  The awardees were selected from across the country and have been exemplary honour roll students. Special Envoy Rossana Briceño says that the scholarship is being extended through to fourth form to ensure that they complete their diploma.

“We had a lot of young people that had dropped out during COVID and then we reached out to the communities and we got, my gosh, over three to three-fifty persons that applied for these scholarships. We worked very closely with the Taiwanese government; I think it was about nine that they wanted, but we focused on the government schools which were more feasible to work with in terms of fees and dues and all of that and it became more practical to work with the government schools. So we reached out and we had to do the selection process and it was hard because there were so many young people that have difficult situations, especially after COVID, getting them back to school. So we selected young people that were at third form and will now go into fourth form. Our goal is for them to finish so we are not taking any new applications. We got the money secured to put them in place for them to go to fourth form so that they can graduate.”

“It depends on the high school. It depends on the high school. It would be between three hundred to four hundred dollars.”
