Briceño Administration’s Budget Planning “Disastrous” Says Opposition Leader

Opposition Leader, Shyne Barrow rose to criticize the Briceño Administration. He argued that many of the objectives contained within this supplementary appropriation bill should have been considered in the 2023-2024 budget that was debated two months ago. Here is an excerpt from the Opposition Leader’s remarks.

“I don’t know if Chris Coye is deliberately trying to sabotage you, but you need to stop listening to him, because the budget planning over the last three fiscal years has been a disaster. It reeks of incompetence. We are sixty days removed from a budget being presented din this house and it is unprecedented that a supplementary would be brought into this house. The opposition can understand St. Mathews. So we are talking about sixty nine million dollars supplementary after we just passed an almost two billion dollars budget.  Supplementary bills are to be presented to this House when emergencies take place. It was for spending not anticipated. So, St. Mathews we understand that. The narcotics war in Corozal I can understand having to reinforce our troops. But when you look at something like the base that he said when the former minister of National Security, when he stand on the base the base sink, so you just realize that two months after you pass the budget.”
