17 Land Titles Issued by G.O.B. Days Before Last General Elections
According to Prime Minister Briceño, as many as seventeen titles for lands adjacent to Northern Lagoon were issued just a few days before the November 2020 general elections. He says that those properties were subsequently sold to Portico.
Prime Minister John Briceño
“The honorable member from Corozal North, who he has sitting beside him. How is it that around this same time when they are fixing up the Definitive Agreement, because, you know, it’s a package you know, it’s not just the Definitive Agreement. How come it’s around this same time when this agreement will be signed an agreement they say they knew nothing about, that his colleague, the minister responsible for lands allowed the following. I have these seventeen titles that were issued [on] November 4th, 2020, as I said, noh, weh he refer to dehn, wahn rogue government? The UDP rogue government? They sold fifty point one acres of seafront to one Key Star Ltd. for thirty-three thousand, one hundred and ninety-three dollars and twenty-five cents too, you know. Dehn collect di twenty-five cents.”
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
“On a point of order, Madame Speaker. My question is why did the Minister of Finance bring the Portico agreement to Cabinet, Madame Speaker? As a party, we have accepted the wrongs of former ministers.”
House Speaker
“What’s the point of order?”
Shyne Barrow
“The point of order is that the standing orders do not allow the member to engage in irrelevance and repetition. He’s not answering the question. What does what the minister in lands sold have to do with the question? Why did you bring the Portico agreement with the legislation to be passed in the house?”
