Iris Centeno is the New Sports Director

There is a new director for the National Sports Council and she is no stranger to sports. Iris Centeno, Women’s Director at the Football Federation of Belize, took up the appointment last week after former director Ian Cal resigned from the post. As we reported, Cal’s contract expired at the end of March, but continued as head of the council until a successor was appointed. Today, Sports Minister Rodwell Ferguson said that great things are expected from Centeno.

“Mister Ian Cal resigned, I think last week Thursday, and we had to figure how we can look for a new director of sports, because we want to elevate sports in this country. And I as the minister responsible, it was my sole prerogative to find a new director. And I was able to look around and I spotted the director for female at the Football Federation of Belize, Miss Iris Centeno. So she has now just been appointed the new director of Sports and I believe she is very passionate about sports and we can see some elevation in sports I guess within a couple months.”
