Marconi Matus resigns from P.U.P
In political news things have calmed down considerably since Friday’s confrontation in Belmopan, but further west in the twin towns of San Ignacio and Santa Elena there is some minor indigestion within the ranks of the PUP. Former Mayor Marconi Matus, who last year stepped down from the post amidst internal squabbles among the slim PUP Town Board majority, has now resigned from the party. In a letter to PUP secretary general Godfrey Smith, copied to the media, Matus said the party had treated him disrespectfully and failed to include him in meetings and consultations. He vowed to put the best interests of the nation above those of any political party.
