Belize City man dead in car crash
The streets of Belize City are often described as dangerous…but the warning usually refers to muggers, druggers and gangsters…not drivers. Early this morning, however, one well known Belize City resident died behind the wheel.
For the past fifteen years, forty-nine-year-old Lennox Munnings covered many miles on his bicycle cart as he rode around the city selling his home made Hops. But today the friends and customers of this well-known entrepreneur are saddened by the sudden death of their self made business man. Police at this time are not certain as to what may have unfolded early Monday morning that caused the Munnings family car, a Hundai Excel to crash sideways into a lamp post at the corner of Cemetery Road and East Collet Canal. The collision was so great that it cracked the post and left parts of its cable and high extension wires tangled. According to the police, by the time they reached the scene of the accident, Munnings was already dead. He apparently died as a result of a broken neck. Today, the family is left grieving the death of not only a husband and father but Munnings’ daughter Tamara says they have also lost a great friend.

He was very loving, very friendly, like to keep around his kids. Always been there for us.
Munnings recalls that the last time she saw her father, was shortly before ten Sunday night, when the family was watching the Super Bowl on television. After the game, Tamara says she went to bed. Four hours later she was awaken by a telephone call.
Tamara Munnings
Well, I got a call from my aunt, about two the morning and she asked me if I heard the news. So I told her what news, so she tell me, she heard that they had just rushed my father to the hospital, but she does not know the condition. She asked me to call my mom and when I went, she wasn’t there so I thought that both of them were together and I called my brothers house and my sister-in-law told me that my brother had already gotten the information and my brother had come to her and took her to the hospital and we went over to my sister-in-law house. We stayed there until we got the call from my brother and they told us that my father had died.
While sources tell Five that at the time of his death Munnings was drinking, police have yet to confirm the report. The late Lennox Munnings leaves behind his wife Allison and eight children.
BEL crews have replaced the broken light pole. The results of a post mortem investigation have not yet been released.
