Minister Musa Reacts to U.D.P. Voting Against CARUW Bill
On Thursday, during an interview with Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa, the media asked for his reaction to the United Democratic Party voting against the Civil Asset Recovery and Unexplained Wealth Bill when it was brought before the Senate. The proposed piece of legislation is among a series of law which, when passed, give teeth to the United Nations Convention against Corruption. Ironically, UNCAC was ratified by the previous U.D.P. Administration in December of 2016. The Caribbean Shores area representative said that the vote is unfortunate and goes on to call out the former Attorney General, who is now the lead U.D.P. senator.
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
“You always hear the former Attorney General speak about UNCAC; it is something that he always raises not just in the senate, but when he is in the media. And here is one step ticking off the boxes required for us to be in satisfaction of the UNCAC requirements and yet the United Democratic Party is voting against transparency and accountability of not just ministers, but also public officers and private individuals across the country to prove how it is that you got so mega wealthy. To prove how it is that you became rich. And that is something that the U.D.P. is voting against? Again, a clear display of what it is that they as a party represent.”
