New U.D.P. candidate in Albert
It was a case of two men entering and when the dust had all cleared only one was left standing. On Sunday, the United Democratic Party held a convention to select a new standard bearer for the Albert Division, after the post was vacated last December when Phillip Bracket resigned from the U.D.P. All indications are that it was a hotly contested convention between Attorney Ellis Arnold and retired lands administrator Thomas Morrison. In the end, thirty seven year old Morrison narrowly edged out Arnold, beating him by nine votes, one ninety seven to one eighty eight. Morrison says there are two main reasons why he was nominated as his party’s standard bearer for the Albert Division.
Thomas Morrison, U.D.P. Standard Bearer, Albert Division
Jackie, I believe I bring youth, new face and a vision who will work honestly, who will work hard and who will work in the best interest of the people. The vision I mention earlier involve the redevelopment and remodernization of the commercial sector in the Albert division. It involves restocking and redevelopment of housing units in a division. It involves addressing the drainage situation. It involves people, the people aspect, like things like education, feeding programs and that sort of thing, Jobs. We must address seriously the overall job situation.
Morrison who is no stranger to the campaign trail, entered the political scene in the Albert Division seven years ago.
