Convicted Cop Killer, Rayford Mejia, Gets Life Sentence
Twenty-three-year-old Rayford Mejia has been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of the murder of Police Constable Osbourne Martinez. That decision was handed down in the courtroom of Justice Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft earlier today. Mejia won’t be eligible for parole until after serving twenty-five years of his sentence. PC Martinez, who was on duty on that fateful day in November 2018, was shot and killed during a robbery at Belcove Hotel on Regent Street West. Mejia was initially charged jointly with Tyrique Myles and Glen Lopez. On the advise of their attorney, both men took plea bargains and pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. Myles and Lopez are still awaiting sentencing.
