CARICOM team arrives in Guyana
In news from Guyana the three man CARICOM mission has embarked on what appears to be the difficult task of calming the nation. The mission is led by former Barbados Foreign Minister Sir Henry Forde and comprises former Commonwealth Secretary General Sir Shridath Rampal and UWI vice chancelor Sir Alistair McIntyre. But even as they were making their appeal to the Guyanese people, P.N.C. supporters were gathering for a demonstration which they hope will be the biggest protest march this beleagured South American republic has ever seen. Georgetown newspapers say over 20 thousand people are expected to demonstrate in the streets for a second time this week defying a ban on marches imposed by the new Janet Jagan administration. The three man mission is due to meet with several political and other interests after first holding talks with the leaders of the two main political parties. They hope to complete what they have called the preliminary phase to their task by this weekend.
