Residents Want Serrano Bus Service Back
Residents in some areas of Ladyville have been complaining about public transportation since Serrano Bus Service lost its road service permit. Earlier this year, the Transport Board decided not to renew the bus line’s permit and it gave way for Central Bus Service to acquire the route. But the new service provided does not traverse certain areas of Ladyville and residents would have to walk out to the highway to catch the bus. Today, Minister of Transport was asked to address these concerns. He says that by July fourteenth the gap will be filled.
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Transport
“Ina everything people wah clamour and people wah agitate, but they do not understand and know the discrepancy that Serrano has over the years. I’m not the Transport Board, I am only the transport minister and the board decides who should get permit and who should not get. As a matter of fact, Mister Shaw who is the president of the bus association sits on the Transport Board on their behalf and even Mister Shaw voted against Serrano for negligence of his operation.”
Duane Moody
“Sir, there are some people who are saying that the permit for Serrano was taken away for political reasons.”
Rodwell Ferguson
“It might appear so to the general public, but the board know exactly the amount of complaints they have against Serrano. So when they came to me and say we voted unanimously against Serrano, I said that’s your decision, not mine so I did not interfere with that decision.”
Reporter
“Sir, but then what happens to the residents who live in Milpa and Japan that Serrano’s is their only bus that they could ketch or else they have to walk all the way out?”
Rodwell Ferguson
“In every scenario, yo wah have wah way how you can fill the gap. So I can assure you that by the fourteenth of July, the gap will be filled.”
