FIFA Foundation’s Digital Education Program in Belize

Ten thousand primary school students from across Belize will benefit from FIFA Foundation’s Digital Education Program. This afternoon, the Ministry of Education, the FIFA Foundation and the Football Federation of Belize signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding. The objective of FIFA Foundation’s Digital Education Program is for students to acquire knowledge and develop skills related to digital education, computational thinking, programming and robotics education. The M.O.U. has a life span of three years and will target students from standard two to standard six.

“This is in keeping with Belize’s own new national curriculum framework which seeks to ensure our students receive values and principles, innovative knowledge and skills that are relevant to attaining sustainable human development in Belize. Under this MOU the Ministry of Education commits to identifying schools to participate, encouraging participation and implementation of the program, providing updates and developing a strategy for the long-term and sustainable promotion of digital education. Science and technology as well as physical education and wellness are two of the key learning areas in our national curriculum framework. Collaboration, digital literacy, character development, emotional intelligence, critical and innovative thinking, effective communication skills, are all areas of competency identified for Belize’s education system.”

“We are very happy to here back again. We arrived here a couple days ago with another program of FIFA Foundation and this is something that will compliment and expand the help that we are bringing together with the Belize football federation, the FIFA Foundation and the Ministry of Education, trying to give the kids this new skills for the future work, digital education for ten thousand youngsters around the whole country in vulnerable context. They will have a chance in this digital education program to know how to program, how to make robotics, create their own robots to play football and this is a combination of on and off the pitch, football on the pitch, off the pitch through digital education.”
