Progresso Murder: Woman Stabbed to Death during Altercation

In the wee small hours of this morning, a murder took place in the village of Progresso, in the Corozal District.  Fifty-two-year-old Rosita Ramona Olivera was socializing with her brother, sister-in-law and one other person when an argument ensued between the couple. Olivera intervened in the quarrel and was reportedly stabbed multiple times to the face and chest. She was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero, the knife-wielding assailant was detained and will be charged for the crime shortly.

“Around 12:05 a.m., police respond to the Northern Regional Hospital where they found Rosita Olivera with stab wounds to the body. She was pronounced dead shortly thereafter at the hospital. Investigation revealed that she was along with three other persons when another couple began with a domestic dispute. The female left and came back to the area with a knife and attempted to stab another male person. The deceased, Rosita Olivera, intervened at which point the female proceeded to stab her to the chest area and to the face. One person is in custody with regards to this fatal stabbing.”
