One more charged in money laundering of over $1.5 million

Story PictureOne more person has been charged with Money Laundering in respect of the bust of one and a half million dollars on New Year’s Eve at MoneyGram. Thirty-three year old Ernest Raymond Jr., has joined five others already charged for the offence. Raymond was offered and met bail of fifty thousand dollars. He is to return to court on March fourth. Raymond Jr. is an associate of the Coye family, and on January fifth, three days after the Coye family was arraigned in court, Raymond was busted by police for keeping an unlicensed firearm. He had a license to carry a nine millimeter gun, but not the one he was carrying at the time. That gun Raymond was busted with belonged to special constable Wayne Samuels. Raymond’s attorney Dickie Bradley claimed that the charges were punishment by a senior superintendent because his client had refused to cooperate with the police’s request for information on the Coye family.

On New Year’s Day, the police department conducted a raid at the Coye home and MoneyGram office, a money transfer service on Mahogany Street. They found one million, five hundred and fifty-seven thousand, seven hundred and eighty-nine dollars stashed inside a suitcase which was in one of the bedrooms. On January second Melonie Coye and her parents, Marlene and Michael Coye, were charged with Money Laundering. James Gerou, Melonie’s American boyfriend was charged on January sixth. The fifth person to be charged was Jude Coye, who was away when the initial charges were placed. Gerou and the Coyes met bail of fifty thousand dollars each which was set by Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie.
