Government minister involved in road accident
But turning north, Minister Nemencio Acosta and his wife Esther are home safe after a scare on Northern Highway on Tuesday night. Acosta was driving the government’s Isuzu D-Max when at around seven-thirty p.m., he experienced a tire blowout near mile forty-six in Carmelita Village, Orange Walk. The fifty-eight year old minister and his wife were traveling from Belize City en route to Corozal Town. The pickup flipped several times before coming to a stop. The Acostas received minor injuries and Deputy O.C. of the Orange Walk Police, Inspector Tillett, says the vehicle was extensively damaged.

“Police responded and met a blue D-Max pickup, bearing license plate BMP-0063, on the left side of the road going towards Belize City with the top of the cab damage, windshield broken, right front fender bent. Investigations revealed that honorable Nemencio Acosta, fifty-eight years of Corozal town was driving from Belize City towards Orange Walk, accompanied by his wife, Esther Acosta, when he suddenly suffered a blow out to the left front tire. As a result he lost control of the vehicle, which overturned. Miss Acosta sustained abrasions on both knees and Mr. Acosta sustained abrasions to the left knee and complained of chest pains.”
