Opposition Threatens Legal Action against PM

Leader of the Opposition Moses “Shyne” Barrow today revealed that the United Democratic Party also intends to bring a lawsuit against Prime Minister John Briceño. Barrow explained that the U.D.P. intends to use the same tort that Waterloo has invoked against Erwin Contreras for misfeasance in public office, related to the Definitive Agreement. Here is how Barrow explained it this morning during his weekly press brief.

“I’d just like to point out that the same act that was invoked against former minister Contreras the opposition will be invoking that for misconduct in office for conspiracy for failure to take action because again, the prime minister knew that this was terrible for the Belizean people. He knew, and we have found out that he was advised, even if he knew in his layman capacity. Of not understanding these things in a legal framework, we now know that one of the most preeminent legal minds advised, said everything that we have said, and the PUP had said.”

“Are you saying the opposition will in fact be bringing a lawsuit against the prime minister in the manner in which Waterloo is bringing one or Port of Belize is bringing one against the former minister?”

“We are in the process as these things continue to unfold. Uh, we are gathering the evidence and we are in the process.”
