Man Shot By Police In Belize City

A police officer allegedly shot a Belize City man with a shotgun while on duty. Romey Herrera, the Aunt of Kenyon Plunkett, told News Five that her nephew is hospitalized after being shot by a police officer on Chetumal Boulevard in Belize City. She says, Plunkett informed her that he was on a motorcycle with another individual when a police mobile approached them and demanded that they stop and pull over. Plunkett alleges that before they were given the opportunity to come to a complete stop they heard a loud bang coming from the police mobile. Plunkett then realized that he was shot to the arm. We spoke with Herrera outside the K.H.M.H. before police issued a report stating that officers were in a mobile chasing a man identified as Victor Lopez, who was driving a motorcycle. Police confirmed that Plunkett was along with Lopez. They say that during the chase, one of the officers observed Plunkett pulling an object from his waist. As a result, the officer fired a single gunshot with his issued shotgun at the individuals on the cycle, which caused injuries to Plunkett. Here is what Plunkett’s aunt told us.

He say, aunty when we the come around Westrac police start to chase the young man on the cycle and deh she fih stop but by this time we done the go around the roundabout so we couldn’t stop right away. By the time we the go around the round about the just feel the police shot him from the back with a shotgun, not even a regular gun a shot gun, dah like deh the shot him to kill him. They shot him from behind. He didn’t have anything on him other than his phone. My nephew hand is broken in so many places. He is losing a lot of blood.
