Mayor on Derelict Vehicles: We’ll Move Them, Owners Pay, or…Sold!
The Belize City Council is also on a campaign to move all derelict vehicles from the street sides across the city. The effort is in conjunction with the police, public health and traffic departments. And, as Mayor Wagner warned, while it may be your mechanic who has your car parked idly on the street, vehicle owners who want back their rides must pay a fee, or the city will sell them.
Bernard Wagner, Mayor, Belize City
“I am warning those mechanics and those, um, owners of derelict vehicles that will come and we’ll fetch it and we’ll take it up to mile four and a half and we’ll impound it and it will cover a cost per day until you claim it back. At the end of the 30 days, if you do not claim, then the city has the right to sell, so we are vigorously going ahead with really enforcing laws that are on the books.”
