Policeman Stabbed While on Duty at Grocery Store near Closing Time
A policeman suffered a stab wound while he was on duty at a grocery store in Belize City on Monday night. Reports are that twenty-eight-year-old Zani Savala, was doing duties at Good Will Store on Central American Boulevard just around closing time at nine p.m., when a young man arrived and wanted to enter the shop. But the policeman closed the entrance door, refusing the youth from going in. The two reportedly got embroiled in an argument, during which time the young man produced a knife from his pocket and stabbed the policeman in the left arm. Savala was taken to the K.H.M.H for treatment where he remains stable. Quick police response resulted in the apprehension of the suspect not far away from where the incident happened. The proprietor of the business told News Five off-camera that she didn’t see the incident because it happened outside the shop and she was busy inside, dealing with the last of her customers at that hour. She said that her surveillance cameras also did not capture the incident because she is in the process of upgrading her surveillance system.
