Police Attempt to Prevent Reprisal in Plues Street Murder

Belize City police have ramped up their presence in the Plues Street area, following the deadly predawn shooting of Jasmine Domingo and her four-year-old daughter.  The incident, according to Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, may have been precipitated by an internal feud within the George Street gang.  Officers have been on patrol in the vicinity to prevent a reprisal in the wake of the shooting that claimed the life of the twenty-three-year-old single mother.

“Certainly, that’s an act of cowardice on the part of the person who did it.  It’s rather unfortunate that the young lady who died as a result of that cowardly act and the child that was injured.  But the police are doing what we can to establish who is responsible.  We have a basic idea but we do need evidence to be able to prosecute whoever the person or persons may be.  I can tell you that since that incident, we have stepped up our presence in the George Street area because somehow we believe that it is an internal rift between the George Street faction and we’re doing what we can to ensure that there is no retaliation.  It is going to be hard, yes, but we will certainly do our best and we assure the public that whatever we do will be for the best interest of those persons who reside in the George Street area.”

“Of course, we are expecting retaliation that is why we are putting measures in place.  I was on the ground on Monday and I went back again yesterday and I am here again today and I will be going back out there again, just to give the public the assurance that utmost best to avert any possible retaliation.”
