“Our program lasted for four weeks. We started in the first week of July and today we are ending with a short ceremony for the students. They took classes in afro-dance, they did crotchet class. We had conversational Spanish for children, junior and senior; we had art class, painting, cooking, and baking. So we had several programs running. The swimming pool was active as well. Our vision is to serve the community, build skills with our children and adults especially. So, we just came up with the different activities based on the demand from the community. We see it as a success, because when you look at the product that was actually given by these students at the end of the program, it is amazing how much they learnt in the four weeks. Our Adults Skills Training Program will begin on September twenty-fifth and they are going to be running during the day and some during the night and even on Saturdays. Our programs are going to be sewing, we have a level one and two, we will also have English as a second language that is going to be offered, level one and two as well. With this we are coordinating with a primary school teacher so he has experience in English and Spanish so he can better relate to the people, especially immigrants, cause these are the people we are catering to do English as a second language.”

Other courses being made available for the Y.W.C.A. Adult Skills Program are cake decorating, hair braiding, nutritional diet planning and computer classes.
