Over $26,000 robbed from Marketing Board
Police are still investigating the murder of Jason Coombs and now have daylight jacking to solve. Sometime after four this evening, the Belize Marketing Board, which is downstairs of the Education Department and next door to the Conscious Youth Development Program (C.Y.D.P.) was robbed. Police arrived at the scene even before the armored vehicle that should have picked up the cash. According to Roque Mai, the Managing Director of the Belize Marketing and Development Cooperation, the robber went with eighteen thousand seven hundred thirty five dollars in cash and seven thousand six hundred and twenty-five dollars in cheques. The twenty-six thousand plus dollars were the proceeds of the day’s onion sales. The robbery has the stench of an inside job. But how was the crook able to move in, take so much and escape undetected even though C.Y.D.P. officers were next door? According to sources, the robber who sported a full head of dreadlocks, simply walked in; aimed a pistol at the cashier; picked up the deposit bag and left. Up to news time tonight, the cashier is still at the police station giving a statement.
