A murder was also recorded in Orange Walk on Saturday night. Nineteen-year-old Jael Jimenez was shot dead by his father-in-law, following an altercation. Jimenez was reportedly socializing with his wife and other family members at their home in Guinea Grass Village when a fight broke out between him and a family friend. His father-in-law, Derrick Bull, was called to the home and he arrived with a gun which he reportedly used to fire a single shot at close range to Jimenez’s chest. Jimenez was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital, but died en route. His family is now asking for justice. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

Jael Jimenez was inside his home here in Guinea Grass Village when a domestic dispute broke out. They had been socializing and drinking and his father-in-law, Derrick Bull, was called to the residence. While there a gun was used to shoot Jimenez at close range to the chest. Irene Jimenez says her husband received the distress call and they rushed over. She came face-to-face with her son’s alleged killer who pointed the gun in her face.

“Same time he mi di walk out when I see my son fall. He noh fall right soh, he sit down because his gial mi di hug he. I only see and when I gone back, I haul his shirt and said what have you done with my son – when he take out the thing and point it on my face. That same time, my son, the next one say let’s go ker my lee bredda, Jael, dah di hospital cause ih di dead. I take my son – me and he and ih pa – he mi done dead already; ih mi done dead.”

It appears, however, that there has been a history of domestic violence between Jael and his wife. Irene Jimenez says that while this was the case, killing her son was not the answer.

“If he mi di quarrel and the man come, he could tell what are you doing with my daughter. He coulda mi come and punch ahn ina ih eye or give ahn wah slap, but noh come like wah dog and pow in front of he. He only come point ahn on ih chest, only one right yah. That noh fair. They always quarrel. Every time dehn quarrel. Sometimes my son call me and tell me, ma come and get Jael; ker ahn home cause ih di quarrel with ih wife, with ih gial. I go, I ker he dah my house. When he di drink, he noh go dah ih house. He find fi he bredda house; he go sleep right there cause he noh want quarrel with ih wife.”

“Investigation revealed that Jael Jimenez was having a domestic dispute with his wife, Dariani Bull and at some point, somebody called for Dariani Bull’s father, namely Derrick Bull. Derrick Bull came to the house and took out a firearm and fired a single shot which caused the fatal injury to Jael Jimenez.”

Police had issued a wanted poster for Bull. Irene says that this is the second death in her family in less than two months and Jael was her youngest son.

“This is too hard for me, but I pray the good lord that he give me the strength and make me get justice too because that is what I want. And how dehn say, the man will come and present himself today dah the station with his lawyer. But I noh care if he come with his lawyer. He will pay, but I got my lawyer up there. He will pay for me; he will make justice for me.”

Late this evening, police confirmed that Derrick Bull is in custody. Duane Moody for News Five.
