A Father is Charged for Abandoning His Two-year-old Son

Michael Cowo Senior

Thirty-four-year-old Michael Cowo Senior has been charged with the abandonment of an infant after he left his two-year-old son unsupervised, while he went looking for his common-law wife. It is alleged that in the wee small hours of Sunday, July thirtieth, the construction worker left the child asleep at home on Gladden Street. Later that morning, the child’s grandmother filed a missing person’s report after she visited the residence and was informed that both parents were looking for the baby. Police responded to the report and began investigating the matter. Additional checks led to the discovery of the child at a neighbor’s house. She informed the officers that she found the toddler crying in front of her house sometime after three a.m. The child was handed over to his grandmother and the Department of Social Services was subsequently called in.  Elizabeth Requena, the mother of the baby, reported to police that she left her home sometime after midnight on July thirtieth and when she returned her husband was the only one at home. In court this morning, Cowo was read one count abandonment of a child and was offered and met bail in the sum of three thousand dollars. He is scheduled to return to court on August eighteenth.
