Derrick Bull is Charged for the Murder of His Son-in-law

Derrick Bull

On Tuesday, we brought you the story of the shooting death of nineteen-year-old Jael Jimenez in Guinea Grass Village, Orange Walk. Jimenez, a father of one, was embroiled in a domestic dispute with his common-law wife when his father-in-law was reportedly called to the residence.  He arrived on the scene brandishing a firearm which he used to fire a single shot to Jimenez’s chest. Despite efforts to rush Jimenez to the hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival. This afternoon, forty-year-old Derrick Bull was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court for the murder of Jael Jimenez and for aggravated assault with a firearm upon Andy Jimenez, the brother of the deceased. Following his arraignment, Attorney Dickie Bradley explained why the matter was not dealt with in the Orange Walk jurisdiction.

“This is an orange walk matter but the magistrate had a conference and the fact that this matter had taken place from over the weekend, the investigators felt that they wanted him to reach court – tomorrow being of course the last working day – so they had a little time and they brought him down to Belize City to be arraigned in front of a magistrate so that in fact he does not have to remain at the Orange Walk Police Station. Mister Derrick Bull’s whole family or a big portion thereof has come all the way from Guinea Grass to Belize City to bring a change of clothes and to give him some kind of support. This is a sad day for everybody as you would know. Another family is grieving the lost of a son and a brother and this family is bewildered over how what is an issue of domestic violence turned out so sadly. The charge is that he intentionally went there and shot the person, but that is not the evidence that is available. This is just a really sad situation all around.”

Due to the nature of the incident, no plea was taken from Bull who was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until October twenty-sixth when he is to appear in the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court.
