Police Warn Against Cop Impersonators
As we’ve reported, there was a murder in San Pedro early on Friday morning. Sometime before three a.m., nineteen-year-old Keon Jamal Quiroz was lured to his front door by someone who impersonated the police and when he opened the door, the person shot him dead. Today, the Belize Police Department shared the details and warned against opening doors to people who claim that they are the police.
A.C.P Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander, Eastern Division
“Information is that Kiros was at home when he heard a knock on his door and he heard someone yell “police” he opened his door and the person opened fire on him, causing his fatal injuries. We are presently conducting an investigation into this matter. So he was… Uh, we do not have a motive at this time. We are doing several interviews and, uh, had some persons in custody for interview. He was not lured by police. The person yelled police and he came out.”

“Do you have advice to people who – this is not the first time this has happened, that, you know, people come knocking at your door, claiming to be the police and then you get a bullet in your head?
A.C.P Hilberto Romero
“Yes, if that occurs, the police will have a way to identify themselves properly. And so, if you are not certain, then you can maybe make a call and verify whether it is the police that are outside.”
Marion Ali
“So they can call the police station?”
A.C.P Hilberto Romero
“Yeah, you can call the station or you can call 9 1 1. We could verify if in fact the police are there.”
