Five Scarlet Macaws Successfully Released in Chiquibul

Five rescued parrots have been successfully released from their enclosure in the Chiquibul.  The birds were in danger before they were extracted and kept in a lab where they were fed and cared for by the Friends for Conservation and Development.  This conservation effort has been successfully undertaken for over five years and the parrots released have generally made it to the wild successfully.  Eric Max is the Research Field Coordinator at FCD.

“Today, we are here just to watch the macaws get released and the release was very successful.  For my team and I, we are very grateful to be a part of this effort to try to have the scarlet macaws being integrated back into the wild and for their population to have a better number.  To see these macaws being released is so overwhelming.  First of all, it’s a long process and to get to this point, it has shown that our effort and our tireless work has paid off in full. I’m very grateful and my team is very grateful to be a part of this program and we will continue the hard work and endless effort for these macaws to be much bigger for the next generation.”
