Opposition Supports Special Select Committee Appointments

Lead Opposition Senator Michael Peyrefitte, says he welcomes the appointment of Senator Chanona as the chair of the Special Select Committee. He told us that he is hopeful the process will quickly get underway and that those who are summoned will respect the authority of the committee.

“Well it was expected that one of the non-government senators would be chair it is their motion and committee. There is no issue with that, she is a colleague. You will have four of them, two from government and one from the opposition. Let’s hope it gets underway really fast and just hope the people who they want to call respect the committee enough to attend when they want to call, even if they believe that they are above the law and don’t need to be call. To anyone who has the temerity to challenge them or even question them, I mean this government behaves as if though you have no right to ask them anything, question them, and criticize them in anyway. They are so thin skinned and insecure that any question put to them, any tough times they may meet they don’t know how to handle it and to say that you don’t think you should be called is the height of arrogance cause the committee can call anybody, any minister anybody they want to cal and if you are called to testify before the committee you need to come and answer the questions.”
