“We need to get to the bottom of it.” – U.D.P. Chairman Peyrefitte
According to U.D.P. Chairman Michael Peyrefitte, the prime minister should have referred the matter to the Belize Police Department since it involves a threat of harm to the physical wellbeing of the woman. In his opinion, as a parliamentarian, Peyrefitte also calls for the Minister of the Blue Economy to step down from his post in the Briceño administration immediately.

“That is something that you let the police investigate. You don’t, on your own, Prime Minister, determine that that doesn’t meet the threshold for something. I mean, and it seems like a pattern of behavior with these PUP ministers, you know. What is going on? We need to get to the bottom of it and we need to do the investigation and also, these people who are saying that they feel threatened or aggrieved or a crime was committed against them. They need to formalize their complaints with the police. They need to do that, but in the meantime the way we are supposed to carry ourselves, code of conduct, decorum, I think it is only right that the minister resigns from the Cabinet, step away and seriously consider resigning his seat in the National Assembly, because even so, that is no way, that is no way to be carrying yourself, in my view. I don’t think that it’s becoming of the office of a member of the National Assembly, that’s just my personal view.”
