Embattled Minister of Blue Economy Takes Leave of Absence
Embattled Belize Rural South Area Representative Andre Perez has taken a leave of absence from his responsibilities as Minister of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation. The decision comes amid a sex scandal involving the San Pedrano and a woman residing in Caye Caulker. Earlier today, the Government of Belize issued a release stating that Prime Minister John Briceño has accepted a request from Perez for a leave of absence in Cabinet. During that time, an investigation will be conducted into recent allegations made against the minister by attorney Wendy Auxillou. Earlier today, News Five obtained a leaked copy of a statement issued by Axillou, in respect of allegations she has brought against Perez. In that release, Auxillou decries the viral circulation of graphic images, purportedly of the minister, in the public domain. She also condemns, “the abusive and defamatory comments Minister Perez has made and continues to make about me to the media. There was never any attempt to blackmail or extort Minister Perez”. As we’ve mentioned an investigation will be held and, at the conclusion, Attorney General Anthony Sylvestre will advise the prime minister whether there has been, “any actionable wrongdoing”. A demand is being made for a criminal investigation to be launched, given the graphic descriptions shared by Auxillou in her account of what purportedly took place involving Perez. During Perez’s leave of absence, his portfolio will be temporarily handled by Prime Minister John Briceño.
