ComPol Addresses Crime and Violence in Corozal District
While an investigation is ongoing, this morning, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams told reporters that the Belize Police Department has been utilizing resources made available through the Government of Belize to address the issue of drug-related crimes in Corozal District. The Briceño administration has allotted a million dollars to law enforcement to fight the scourge of crime and violence stemming from the drug trade in the north.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“Certainly we are doing our utmost best, we are grateful for the resources that have been provided to us through the government. You would that we had the approval of the house, of a million dollars, to procure items to be able to deal with the cartel issues in the north. While we have not been able to procure all the items, we have received majority of them and our officers in eth area are doing what they can to see how we can mitigate the issue. I don’t think it is going to reach a stage where we’ll eradicate it totally, but we’ll certainly do our best to contain it, as well as to coordinate with our Mexican counterparts where the need may arise, to ensure that we gather good information on any activities that may be coming out of the Mexican side into Belize. And vice-versa, we would provide information to them as well.”
