Will a New Collective Agreement Be Reached for the Sugar Industry?
The new sugar crop season commences in December of this year and the goal is that a new collective agreement between the millers and all sugar cane farmers associations be finalised before then. Minister Kareem Musa says that a meeting will soon be held with B.S.I.
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
“The agreement currently exists; it expires in November and that is why the next few months are very critical, very crucial. And as you know the price of sugar is doing extremely well at the moment and that sort of has been a buffer to deal with this blow that we are experiencing. But certainly, we are hopeful that we can find some resolution to this matter before November.”
