Incest in Burrell Boom; father goes to court

Turning to news from the courts, it is a crime that is not often reported but a twelve year old girl of Burrell Boom claims she was raped twice by her father. Fearful after the first incident in March 2008, the girl did not report it until eleven months after the second assault. Her thirty-two year old father, whose name will not be revealed to protect the minor, was arraigned today for two counts of Incest and one of Grievous Harm. The father, who spoke little English, was provided with a translator when he appeared before Senior Magistrate, Dorothy Flowers. Police and Social Service personnel were not aware of the incident until this past Monday when she made the report. The child alleged that sometime in December of 2008, her father took her fishing. He took her on his bicycle and midway into the journey, she became fearful and began to run when he stopped. She claimed that when he caught up with her, he raped her and then took her home. She also reported another incident where her father raped her in her bedroom. Doctors have confirmed that she has been carnally known. The father was denied bail and remanded to the Hattieville Prison.
