Brothers Tyrone and Ellis Meighan are Back in Court
Brothers Tyrone and Ellis Meighan appeared in court today where they both chose to give unsworn statements from the dock arguing the charge of being members of a gang. According to Tyrone Ellis, he was charged for being a member of a gang in February 2020 and the evidence brought against him in court was fabricated. Tyrone says he has since relocated to Placencia where he is a construction worker and tour guide. His sibling, Ellis Meighan, also testified that the allegations brought against them are simply to tarnish their reputation. They say that they were raised in a strict household that taught them to have a close relationship with God. Today’s trial ended with submissions being put forward by the Crown, represented by Assistant Superintendent of Police Derwin Sambula. Tyrone and Ellis Meighan remain on remand at the Belize Central Prison after they were charged criminally with another offense whilst out on bail granted to them by the High Court.
