G.O.B. Secures Fund for the Management of National Development Strategy
Eight hundred and fifty-five thousand Belize dollars – that’s the amount of funds the Government of Belize was able to secure through grant funds from the European Union’s Technical Cooperation Facility. The funds will be used to support the Ministry of Economic Development in managing the National Development Strategy and for Development of Partnership Coordination. The ministry manages majority of the EU programs and so the support also goes to establishing a secretariat to work on cooperation internally and internationally. The agreement was signed earlier today.
Dr. Osmond Martinez, C.E.O., Ministry of Economic Development
“The agreement comes in good time. Additionally it proves and shows the great relationship we have with the European Union and the European Union with Belize. And then the impact that it will have is because it will generate four jobs and it has a component to sponsor the next Belize Investment Summit as well. But it has four vacancies that will be impacted and it will help us with a consultant to strengthen SIB’s system in order to help us to monitor projects that are being implement specially in terms of the medium-term development strategy. It will help us to provide support in terms of monitoring, reporting and learning of the NTDS. And then the third one is to hire a secretariat that will help us to strengthen the relationship with the donors.”
Aniceto Rodriguez-Ruiz, EU Head of Delegation, Belize
“The European Union is providing support to the Ministry of Economic Development in Belize to better fulfil the role of coordinating on one side internally among ministries, department and agencies inside the Government of Belize of all the development cooperation aspects. And on the external side, coordinating also with all the international development partners active in the country, among them the European Union.”
