“We respect each other here on the island”, San Pedro Town Mayor
Last week, when we sat down with Gualberto “Wally” Nunez, the Mayor of San Pedro Town, he commented on the U.D.P. protest. We asked Mayor Nunez about the culture of San Pedranos that Jazelie Azueta and her team referred to in their press release. Here is what he told us.
Gualberto “Wally” Nunez, Mayor, San Pedro Town
“Well, here on the island we have been very united, regardless of political affiliations or beliefs. Everybody has been united here, especially when it comes to something in need, right? And we have never, we have never seen that type of protest and things that we fight with each other physically. We respect each other here on the island and I believe it is, it is a culture for both islands, San Pedro and Caye Caulker as well, because we’re very united when it comes to helping and aiding each other. So, I believe that in a way, yes, that there, there is no culture of protests and stuff like that. But it just begs the question when you see that they can’t get together. You have the leadership in the United Democratic Party and their executive here not being able to coincide and decide what they want to do. So, it just shows division.”
