Elden Flowers and Kareem Franklin Charged for Killing Orel Leslie
Tonight, two gunmen remain behind bars at the Belize Central Prison after being arraigned earlier today for the shooting death of thirty-four-year-old Orel Leslie on August twenty-seventh. As we reported last week, Elden Flowers and Kareem Franklin were nabbed by Belize City police near the roundabout on Freetown Road, moments after businessman was executed in the Yarborough area, near the intersections of Regent Street and Albert Street West. They were found in possession of two weapons, including a nine millimeter firearm.
While Flowers and Franklin were charged for those firearms offenses, they were also the prime suspects in Leslie’s murder. This afternoon, they appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate where they were jointly charged for Leslie’s killing. They were also charged for the theft of a motorcycle belonging to Haitian security supervisor Jean Mitchelet Desire. According to Desire, while conducting a security check on her Meilun motorcycle and riding along Albert Street West, she was attacked by two dark-skinned male persons who were armed with a handgun. The forty-eight-year-old woman was subsequently relieved of the motorcycle at gunpoint. Thereafter, both men made good their escape. Flowers and Franklin are due to return to court on November third, 2023.
