G.O.B. Hosts High Level U.S. Delegation
And, as Minister David Rutley leaves the country, a high-level delegation from the U.S. is in Belize on a three-day visit. The delegation arrived on Tuesday and will be conducting meetings with a number of government officials on key national security issues. Minister of Foreign Affairs Eamon Courtenay told us more.
Eamon Courtenay, Minister of Foreign Affairs
“A very high level U.S. delegation arrived in the country yesterday for a series of meetings. We have representatives from USAID. We have from the Department of Defense and we have from the Vice President’s office. As you know, the Vice President has primary responsibility in the Biden administration for the Caribbean. I think the delegation is about twelve people. They are here for meetings with the Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, Minister of Home Affairs, myself. They are meeting with the Belize Defense Force, Coast Guard, National Security Directorate, migration in the Ministry of Immigration. The relationship between the United States and Belize is very strong and we are at a critical point in that relationship and are looking forward to having a number of in-depth discussions on a number of critically important things that are affecting the country at this time on which we need the United States to deepen its cooperation.”
