“I think all Belizeans will appreciate that the life and legacy of George Price is inextricably linked to our September celebrations, national day, and independence. George Price’s footprints and finger prints are all over these national celebrations so we think of him all the time, but particularly during this month of celebration. So this traveling exhibition that we launched this year, we launch it at the George Price Center for Peace and Development in January. It is a travelling exhibition; we have been to Punta Gorda and Dangriga. Now we have it here in Belize City at the Museum of Belize and it is all about sharing with the Belizean people the writing, speeches of the premier. These are speeches given when he was premier of Belize during his fight for self government and independence. So it is critically important. We have the young students here today from high school and primary school who were born long after independence, so it is important for us to promote and preserve this great history and share it with young people  and researchers. So I think it is a great event. It is made even more significant today, because for the first time in this exhibition we have the instruments of independence. Obviously it is the birth certificate of out country and this document was locked away for forty two years in a draw in the Office of the Clerk of the National Assembly, no faulty of anyone. Everyone just felt like that was safe keeping, it would be preserved there. The truth is it does belong in the National Archives and Record Service. We were very happy that through the initiative of the Speaker of the House and President of the Senate, working along with the Archives, we were able to sign an MOU so that the actual instruments which are on display here would be handed over to the Archives for permanent keeping.”
