Belize City Woman Claims Police Brutality

A Belize City woman claims that she was brutalized by police officers at the Raccoon Street Police Station when she went to file a report over the weekend. Fifty-two-year-old Sherlette Lamb says that she was socializing on Fabers Road at around two a.m. on Saturday morning when a man she knows threatened her life. As a result, she made her way over to the police station to file a report. Lamb told us that she had been drinking prior to visiting the station and that the officers realized that she was under the influence of alcohol. She says, however, that when the officer told her to return the next day to make her report, she insisted that she would wait inside the police station until she is sober enough to file her complaint. According to Lamb, she got into a heated altercation with the officers. She claims that the officers ganged up on her and threw her out of the station, causing bodily harm in the process. She has a medical form and the bruises on her arm to back up her claim. Here is what she told us.

“You throw my umbrella and unu cuss me to eena uniform that is why I record unu, all ah unu. I wah wait right ya, yo assault me, yo assault me, unu dah hogs, unu assaulted me. I went in there, there was behind the table sitting down doing what she was doing behind the computer. I said I came here to make a report about a young man who disrespected me. She said, what is the report, I said the young man, (beep), curse me, directly my name Sherlette Lamb, curse me saying you dah wah old (beep), you dah wah (beep) and you come Fabers Road come sell yo (beep). Whereby I was really agitated, I have the video where I was crying. That little boy disrespected me in every way he can. Anyways, now the lady she misses, you are under the influence right, how much you drink? I told her how much I drink. She said ok miss, come back tomorrow. I understand. Now a police come out in an arrogant manner and said let’s go miss you nuh hear the lady done tell yo come back tomorrow, get. Now I really mad, because I am not a dog. They need to know how to talk to people; I am a human as well as them. She got up come direct to me and tell me get out of the station and she come pull my hand and then the sergeant  who was sitting down, because I didn’t want to say to him to waste my breath to say what was the report, I said I will not because unu cant help me, I said I am just fed up because unu go on like animal with me for somebody disrespecting me, so all ah unu wah gang up, the inspector, you the sergeant and the two police come pull me out of the station. So while they pull me out the station, the sergeant was doing the most, grabbing my arm and squeeze it. I said, release my arm, you hurting me. I managed to pull and I said, let me go. And he was like you heard what I said, get the (beep) from yah.”
