Ex-convict Arraigned for La Popular Robbery
An ex-convict, who has spent time in jail for the murder of Alfonso Eck while in prison, is back behind bars tonight after he was charged with robbery and placed on pretrial detention. Lorenzo Smith Junior, a resident of Crooked Tree Village, appeared before the Chief Magistrate earlier today where he was arraigned for a robbery that took place on September sixteenth at La Popular Bakery. It is alleged that Smith entered the premises last Saturday while the cashier and the security guard were inside the bakery. Smith reportedly pretended that he was interested in purchasing an item when he produced a pistol and proceeded to shove the security guard behind the counter and ordering the cashier to hand over the proceeds from the cash register. Complying with the demand, she placed eight hundred and fifty dollars inside a bag and the robber made good his escape.
