Police Constable Charged for Assaulting Ex-girlfriend
In the lower courts today, twenty-five-year-old Tyrek Tyrone Gillett, a police officer, was granted bail after being charged with assaulting his ex-girlfriend and threatening to kill her. Gillett, a resident of Curl Thompson Street, appeared unrepresented before a magistrate where he was read two charges: one count of common assault and another for use of threatening words. His former girlfriend reported to police on September eighteenth that Gillett visited her home and the two got into a heated argument during which she took hold of a knife and told he him to leave the residence. This is after he reportedly kept calling her at work which led to her being fired from the call center. During the altercation, Gillett allegedly took possession of the knife, choked the woman and then slammed her on the bed. She also reported that he uttered the following words, “dis wah be the last time you wah fool with my head because I wah kill yoh” In court, PC Gillett pleaded not guilty to both charges and was granted bail in the sum of one thousand dollars, plus one surety of the same amount. He is scheduled to return to court on October thirty-first.
