Construction Worker Busted for Immigration Offense
Twenty-three-year-old Walter Martinez, a Honduran national pleaded guilty to failure to produce a visitors permit on demand when he appeared before a Senior Magistrate earlier today. On Tuesday, Martinez was caught walking along Coney Drive in the vicinity of Body 2000 when it was discovered that he was in violation of an immigration offense. The Immigration Department’s Investigation Unit was conducting routine immigration checks at a construction site in the area when they encountered Martinez. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was imposed a fine of one thousand dollars which he was ordered to pay immediately. The Belize Immigration Department then made an application for a removal order which was granted by the lower court judge. But Martinez was unable to pay the fine and tonight he is behind bars at the Belize Central Prison.
