Legendary Parandero Paul Nabor on the road to recovery
But there is good news on Paul Nabor. He was flown to Belize City from Dangriga on Friday morning after doctors suspected he had suffered a minor stroke. But the legendary Parandero was well enough to be discharged from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Marion Ali was on hand for the occasion just before he was transported to the airstrip to catch his flight to Dangriga.

Except for the wheelchair he was seated in, no one would be able to tell that Paul Nabor was being discharged after being hospitalized with complications since last week. The seventy-nine year old legend was sharp in speech and appearance.

“I feel happy and I feel alright. I’m okay for right now and I’m happy too because I really want to get home now.”
But while he’s feeling well, the veteran musician was sent off with his list of don’ts because of high cholesterol.

“Deh tell me not to cook my food with coconut and I’m sorry but that’s the food that I eat; hudut and tapow and my fry fish. But dehn said I must try my best not to eat it.”
When he was flown to Belize City last Friday, doctors had suspected that Nabor had suffered a stroke.

“You had a problem moving your left leg, how is it now? Can you move your left leg?”
Paul Nabor
“They gave me two little pills this morning and I drink it and I went to my bed. And when my grandson call me I try force it to put it down and I did. They say the stroke is looking for me and I said well I will try my best if I can help myself.”

“So you’ll need therapy now?”
Paul Nabor
“Yes, for sure.”
Nabor’s daughter, Marie Santino, flew in from the states to be with her dad. A musician herself, she also enlightened us of who her father really is.

“Where did Nabor come from?”

“He get together with his friends and that’s how this name came about in his own songs.”

“So Nabor, does it have a meaning?”

“That’s a nickname.”
A nickname that stuck through the years and has become his stage identity. Light-hearted as ever, Nabor thanked the staff at the K.H.M.H. as he returned home to recuperate.

“No hudut. I’m happy today because I’m going home.”
